One of the prominent features on the North Wales Expressway near Asaph is the church spire of St Magaret of Antioch. The church dates from 1860 and is very Catholic in decoration. St Margaret of Antioch daughter of a pagan priest, converted to Chrsitianity and dedicated her virginity to God; she was horribly tortured when she refused to marry and numerous miracles were attributed to her. She was one of the saints who spoke to Joan of Arc. She was declared "apocryphal" in 495 AD.
