Through the Royal Game reserve of Chitwan to the Kathmandu Vally and the ancient centres of Newari civilisation dating from 300BC, of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur with the great temples of Pashupatinath and Boudhanath. Much of Kathmandu Valley, the temples and shrines shown here, was destroyed by an earthquake in 2015. In 1986 Nepal was still and absolute monarchy and one of the poorest countries in the world. Despite many billions of dollars of aid in the meantime it remains one of poorest places on the planet.
