Built on the site of the original church errected by St Milburga, Abbess of Wenlock, and original site of her burial until translated in 1101 AD to Wenlock Priory by the adjacent Norman Cluniac Foundation at Wenlock Priory. Nothing of the Saxon Church remains although the tower is late 12th century, the nave and west entrance are from the 12th to 14th centuries. The chancel and sanctuary date from the 14 and 15th centuries.
