Temple of Seti I, started by Seti and completed by Rameses II

Seti was the son of Horemheb who ruled after the heretic Akhenaten and restored the original worship of Amun. Seti completed the restoration of the temples which had been closed by Akhenaten.

Abydos had been a cult centre of Osiris since at the 6th Dynasty and was the place to be buried, mostly because the head of Osiris was believed to be buried there.
