Originally a Cistercian foundation in 1172, the monks were moved by Edward I to build Conwy Castle and town walls. The Treaty of Aberconwy was signed here to confirm the submission of the Welsh to English rule. The west door and 3 lancet windows above the arch date from the original abbey.
