In Wharfedale, a few miles from Skipton, on the egde of the Duke of Devonshire's vast Bolton Abbey Estate, lies Bolton Priory, founded 1154 as an Augustinian convent, dissolved 1539. The last Prior successfully secured the nave as a place of worship for the local community. In the Priory cemetery lies the grave of Fed Tureman, legendary Yorkshire and England fast bowler.
