Once the site of one of the wealthiest Benedictine Abbeys in England, a site of pilgrimage. Now nothing remains but the clock tower.

Under the High Altar of the ruined Abbey is buried Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, who lead the Barons' revolt against the tyrannical rule of Henry III and is credited with calling the first elected Parliament in Europe. The Parliament met in a field near Kenilworth Castle in 1265. De Montfort was killed a year later at the Battle of Evesham and the Abbey was the scene of a bloody massacre of De Montofrt's forces seeking refuge in the church.

The Abbey was dissolved in 1540 and was plundered by the townsfolk.
