Home to 70 elephants. Elephants live in groups of up to 80 in the forest. If they become disconnected from the herd they can turn aggressive, particularly male elephants aged between 18 and 25 who are sexually mature but socially inexperienced; without the control exerted by the herd they can start to attack farms. Lone elephants are anaesthetised and taken to a rehabilitation centre in Colombo for 3 months after which they are brought to Kandy.
