My first visit to Africa, the fruit of a year's planning, and intended to encompass a week in Nairobi with a trip to Mombassa plus two back to back safaris visiting all the major National Parks in Kenya. Less than an hour before I was due to leave the hotel to catch the overnight train to Mombassa the phone rang to tell me my father had died.
