A place rarely visited partly because it has either been on the edge of bandit country or deep within it for many years depending on the state of insurgency in Egypt. Until relatively recently a special travel permit and police escort was required just to enter the area.

The three hour journey by car from Luxor is worth every minute; you will usually have the place to yourself to enjoy the exquisite art. Unlike most Egyptian temple decoration which is highly stylised and conveys little or no sense of emotion, some of the scenes depicted in the Seti Temple are full of sentiment.
